Auditions for High School Students

September 24, 2020: When we announced our shift to a virtual convention, the TMEA Executive Board declared its commitment to ensuring the path to All-State would remain a meaningful journey for all involved. In addition to developing a means for recorded auditions throughout our 33 Regions, the Executive Board is actively investigating an opportunity to host in-person rehearsals and performances of our 18 All-State ensembles in early June. We will communicate more details once they are finalized. Understand that our plans could be affected at any time, given our top priority remains the health and safety of all involved.

The All-State audition process begins throughout the state in each of the TMEA Regions. Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. From this ranking, a select group of musicians advances from their Region to TMEA Area competitions and from there the highest-ranking qualify to perform in a TMEA All-State music group. These All-State students participate in three days of rehearsals during the annual state TMEA Clinic/Convention, and their performances before thousands of attendees bring this extraordinary event to a close.

For Jazz Ensemble information go to All-State Band. For Mariachi Ensemble go to All-State Orchestra.

Auditions for Middle School Students

Each TMEA Region hosts contests in which individual middle school students can audition for the opportunity to rehearse together and perform in a Region band, orchestra, or choir. Regions create their own rules and audition materials for these events. Check eligibility here.
