Course Description

Posture and setup problems often interfere with tone, intonation, response, and technical ease long before a teacher addresses higher-level musical issues. In this session, Jason Hooper presents practical, research-informed strategies for improving physical setup on all four string instruments. Topics include instrument position, balance, bow-arm alignment, left-hand frame, and equipment-related considerations that affect student comfort and sound production. Teachers will learn how to identify common setup faults, apply efficient corrective cues, and use simple classroom tests to determine whether an adjustment is actually improving the student’s playing. The session is designed to help teachers build healthier habits from the beginning, reduce unnecessary tension, and create more consistent technical instruction across individual classrooms and vertically aligned string programs.
