Course Description

Motivation may be the single most important factor in sustained student success. How can we design music classrooms that thrive on genuine passion and authentic engagement? This session offers a clear framework and practical strategies to build a learning environment where motivation flourishes, creativity thrives, and students feel truly connected to their musical growth.

About the Presenter

Stephen T. Cox is the Director of Music Education for the Willis Wonderland Foundation, developing songwriting and music education programs nationwide. A Grammy Music Educator Award winner (2022), he is a sought-after speaker and clinician for jazz, concert, and modern bands. From 2022–2024, he launched a student-led band program in San Antonio, growing enrollment from 37 to 315 students. Previously, he directed Eastland High School’s award-winning bands for a decade. Cox champions creativity, student ownership, and community-centered music-making. He has presented at TMEA, TBA, TI:ME, and the Midwest Clinic. He lives in San Antonio with his wife Stephanie and their three children.
