Course Description
Mrs. Chapa will present a collection of songs in Spanish featuring vocal exploration, lullabies, and action songs designed to encourage tuneful singing among young primary students. Drawing from the Kodály approach and principles of bilingual education, she will share strategies that help build a strong musical foundation while fostering a vibrant environment for young emergent bilinguals.
About the Presenter
Julissa Chapa taught elementary music in the Houston area for 20 years. She earned her Bachelor and Master of Music and is a doctoral candidate at the University of Houston. She is currently a lecturer at the University of Houston, teaches at the Fort Bend Kodály Institute, and has presented for several districts and conferences. Her goal is to promote quality music education for all children, upholding Kodály's beliefs that music is a birthright of every child.
