All-State Orchestra Audition Etudes
This is the official listing of the 2025–2026 Orchestra Division All-State Audition Material.
All amendments, corrections and errata will become official only when it is published here.
Etudes are copyrighted materials. Do not post etudes on any websites or social media.
Be sure to make note of any changes that may appear here during the upcoming months. Should you discover any errata in the music that may have been missed, please notify the State Orchestra Division Chair.
New! Instructional videos: In a pilot partnership with Ensemble Block, an educational media and technology company, TMEA is providing access to high-quality instructional videos of the audition etudes. TMEA is offering this access at no cost to high school students who are preparing to audition. Featured practice tools include synchronized notation, looping, and slow‑down playback of the videos. -This etude is a study in two voices and as such, sometimes the rhythmic notation for the top voice does not apply to the bottom voice. (posted 5/6)
-m. 19- beat 4 should be an F-natural on the top.
-m. 27-49 and m. 68-79- the emphasis in these measures is on the big beat and the more melodic top line. As such the rhythmic structure of the melodic line will be strictly adhered to, while the 32nd/64th notes should be treated in more of a grace note fashion. (posted 5/6)
-m. 27- beat 1 (E-flat) should be a double dotted quarter note (posted 5/6)
-m. 29- the double dot on beat 4 (D) should be a single dot (poasted 5/6)
