He served as Vice-President and Texas State Band Chair for the Texas Music Educators Association in 1995-1996 and 1996-1997, and then President of TMEA in 1997. He is presently serving as Region President for TMEA Region 16. During his term as President, he established the TMEA Blue Ribbon Committee to study the organization of the Texas All-State ensembles. The result of this study was to increase the number of All-State organizations by three; the Texas All-State 4A Band, the Texas All- State String Orchestra and the Texas All-State Women’s Choir. The purpose of this increase was to provide more opportunity for honor and recognition to the music students of Texas. Also during his presidency, an agreement was reached between TMEA and ATSSB to begin a new time of communication and cooperation. This resulted in ATSSB and TMEA combining sponsorship of the All-State Bands.
