Billy Rex Cormack was born March 13,1934 in Amarillo, Texas. He was a 1952 graduate of Amarillo High School. He earned a Bachelors of Music from Texas Tech in 1959, and followed with a Master’s of Music Education in 1962. He served his country in the U. S. Army. He will be remembered by the thousands he touched in deed and story. He had a wonderful career as a successful choral director at Tascosa High School in Amarillo, many years as the Fine Arts Director in Midland and Dallas and a long association with the Texas Music Educators Association as State Vocal Chair, President and as its Executive Director. He will also be remembered by the many people who came to know and trust him in their life. Honors awarded to Mr. Cormack included the Freedom Foundation, Amarillo Citizen Award, Kiwanian of the year, National Honorary member of Phi Beta Mu, Amarillo Hall of Fame, Distinguished Alumni of Texas Tech University and the TMEA Bill Cormack Scholarship. Finally, the TMEA Executive Board room is named is his honor.
