Texas Music Educators Association Announces Retirement of Deputy Director

Frank CoachmanAUSTIN, TEXAS (May 30, 2025)—The Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) announced today that the association’s Deputy Director, Frank Coachman, will be retiring from his position in October 2025, after 26 years in this role.

“Frank Coachman’s expertise and dedication have profoundly shaped TMEA and the music education community,” said TMEA Executive Director Joe Muñoz. “His innovative work has transformed our association, enhancing the efficiency of our programs and operations, and his commitment to excellence has set a standard that will support our success for years to come.”

After working 22 years as a Texas music educator, Coachman began his tenure as TMEA’s first Deputy Director in July 1999. In these 26 years, he has been a steadfast advocate for music education and has played a pivotal role in advancing TMEA’s use of technology to streamline the audition process, convention management, member communications, and Executive Board support.

“I feel deeply honored and privileged to have served as TMEA’s first Deputy Director,” said Coachman. “I have been blessed and enriched by the trust placed in me by Robert Floyd, Joe Muñoz, our incredible staff, the Executive Boards, and Region officers. I cherished providing resources and support to our music educators and, most importantly, their students. My love, passion, and loyalty for TMEA will be lifelong.”

Coachman’s unwavering devotion to TMEA and those the association serves has left an indelible mark. The TMEA Executive Board and staff express their profound gratitude for his years of service and commitment to the association’s vision.

TMEA will soon announce the application process and expects to select its next Deputy Director this summer. Coachman will continue to serve as TMEA’s Deputy Director throughout the selection process and will support the new Director during a transition period, ensuring a strong continuity of leadership.
