Job Posting: TMEA Deputy Director

The Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) is seeking a full-time Deputy Director to work at the TMEA office in Austin. The ideal candidate should have strong management experience in operations, events, and data analysis. They should also have a thorough understanding of TMEA’s policies, programs, and mission.

As a key player in our team, the Deputy Director will work closely with the Executive Director and staff to manage, implement, and support programs and projects that are instrumental in furthering our mission and goals.

General Responsibilities
  • Assist and advise the Executive Director.
  • Serve as a key resource for the Executive Board, ensuring their success, including attendance at all Board meetings.
  • Maintain staff operations calendar.
  • Develop and implement plans to improve office efficiency and serve members.
  • Manage the annual Clinic/Convention schedule and the necessary operational support to ensure its success, including effective coordination and communication with strategic partners, contracted personnel, and key participants (e.g., clinicians, presiders, guides).
  • Manage the audio/visual needs for the annual Clinic/Convention.
  • Coordinate the equipment needs for the annual Clinic/Convention.
  • Manage the room setups for the annual Clinic/Convention.
  • Maintain competent skills and knowledge in the use of software and applications to support TMEA operations and programs.
  • In coordination with the Information Technologist and Software Developer, oversee the use of All-State entry and audition tabulation platform.
  • Manage the TMEA Region/Area alignment process, including preparation of TMEA audition participation data.
  • Coordinate TMEA officer and audition tabulation training.
  • Coordinate and manage CPE credit and reporting for TMEA sponsored professional development offerings.
  • Maintain membership in TSAE with a focus on continuing professional education.
  • Attend state, regional, and national meetings as requested by the Executive Director.
  • Assist the Executive Director in enhancing relationships with other professional organizations and state policy makers.
  • Analyze and prepare reports of TEA fine arts enrollment data for use in education and advocacy efforts.
  • Perform special duties and manage special programs as directed by the Executive Board or Executive Director.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required (music education preferred).
  • Master’s degree preferred (music, education, administration, or business preferred).
  • At least ten years of successful classroom music education experience preferred.
  • TMEA volunteer, elected leadership, or activities sponsor experience preferred.
  • Proven success overseeing and collaborating with a professional staff.
  • Proven experience building and managing project plans preferred.
  • Experience in establishing successful relationships with individuals and organizations of influence.
  • Experience managing significant organizational events including budget.
Compensation

Salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications; TMEA offers a robust benefits package.

Location and Travel
  • This position is based at the TMEA office located 6 miles northeast of downtown Austin, and employees are generally expected to work from the office.
  • Some local/regional travel is required, as well as occasional statewide and national travel. Travel required to be present throughout TMEA’s annual convention.
Start Date

The full-time start date is negotiable but no later than September 2025.
