Job Posting: Administrative Assistant

Texas Music Educators Association is seeking to hire a regular, full-time Administrative Assistant who will report to the Administrative Director of TMEA. Applications close May 15, 2026, with an expected start date of no later than June 15, 2026. See below for details on applying.

Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Director.
  • Managed by the TMEA Administrative Director, provide administrative assistance for TMEA operations.
  • Support the Membership Department and multiple TMEA programs with timely and accurate data entry, response to inquiries, and production and mailing of materials.
  • Provide administrative support for TMEA events and meetings (e.g., meals, lodging, meeting space reservations).
  • Greet visitors and manage incoming phone calls and emails, responding or forwarding as needed.
  • Maintain and organize files and records, electronic and paper.
  • Collect and distribute mail daily to staff members.
  • Maintain office supplies and inventory.
Qualifications
  • Minimum requirement: High school diploma or equivalent (associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Essential: 2+ years of administrative or office experience required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent data entry skills, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Exceptionally attentive to detail in all tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Pay and Benefits
  • Regular, non-exempt, full-time, hourly position

  • Pay is commensurate with experience, starting at $23.50/hour

Location, Work Hours, and Travel
  • This position is based at the TMEA office located 6 miles northeast of downtown Austin. This position requires on-site work in the office. Regular office hours are Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • No reimbursement for relocation will be provided.

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of application.

  • Travel is generally not required, except for the TMEA convention which is held in San Antonio in February.

Location, Work Hours, and Travel
  • Mobility & Posture: Frequent standing, walking between work areas, sitting for extended periods, and occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching for file retrieval.

  • Manual Dexterity: High level of hand-finger coordination for typing, handling office machinery (printers, copiers), and handling small tools or documents.

  • Lifting & Carrying: Occasional lifting or moving of materials up to 10–20 pounds, such as office supplies, printer paper, or file boxes.

  • Sensory Requirements: Clear speaking and hearing for communication (in-person/phone), and high visual acuity to read reports and monitor computer screens.

  • Driving: Occasional requirement to operate a motor vehicle to run errands or attend meetings.

  • Working Conditions: Mostly quiet, climate-controlled office environments, though some roles may require navigating facility grounds or working flexible hours.
