Description:
Dr. Kristina MacMullen willl present on two different topics to help high school choral teachers be more successful and have more engaging rehearsals. "Finding the voice through warmups" integrates new and exciting ways to get all your singers making the best sounds they can. Haven't tried a howling contest with your sopranos and altos, haven't asked your tenors to war call like their headed to battle? Dr.MacMullen uses these techniques, as well as a number of other inventive vocal warm ups, as well as dives deep into how we talk about singing with our students. After a short break, we will come back together for "Getting off the Risers and Moving with the Music." Adding physicality to the rehearsal is something that we have all witnessed as being a huge help in getting our students to really engage with the music. Utilizing this year's TMEA All-State repertoire, Dr. MacMullen will get teachers up and moving around the room to showcase the rhythm of the piece. She will use hands, arms, and at times the whole body, to get teachers to better internalize as well as see the complexities of the music they are singing.
