Invited All-State Soloists

TMEA welcomes applications for soloists who will perform with the All-State Small School Mixed Choir. Applicants must be a current Active or College Student member in TMEA, reside in Texas, and register for the convention to perform. Read the following to be informed and to understand all requirements before applying (button at the bottom of the page).

All-State Small School Mixed Choir Soloists

An adult soprano, adult alto, adult tenor, and adult bass will perform the Gloria from the Coronation Mass in C by Mozart.
Audition material: Along with the online application, soloists will submit a recording of themselves singing with accompaniment,

Soprano and Alto – begin at measure 66 and finish at measure 113 on beat 2 (after “no-stram”)
Tenor – begin at measure 70 and finish at measure 113 on beat 2 (after “no-stram”)
Bass – begin at measure 69 and finish at measure 113 on beat 2 (after “no-stram”)

Entry Requirements

  • The soloist must be a current Active or College Student member of TMEA.
  • The soloist must reside in Texas.
  • Applicants may be choir directors, private teachers, or college students.
  • Application and recording must be submitted online by Noon, November 16, 2023.
    • Uploading the recording will take time. Start the application process before 11 a.m. 
    • A vocal bio/resume (two paragraphs maximum) must be included within the online application.

Recording Requirements

  • There should be no verbal identification of the applicant on the recording.
  • Acceptable recording formats for upload:
    • Preferred format: mp3; Sample rate: 48000 Hz; Stereo; Bitrate: 256 kbps, constant
    • m4a (AAC-LC); Sample rate: 48000 Hz; Stereo; Bitrate: 256 kbps, constant
    • WAV (Uncompressed); Sample rate: 44,100 Hz; Stereo; 16-Bit (required)

Application

  • Applicants will be reviewed by a committee of choir directors who are selected by the TMEA State Vocal Chair.
  • This is a blind review process; only the State Vocal Chair knows the identity of the applicants.
  • The top 3 applicants on each voice selected by the committee will be submitted to the All-State Clinician/Conductor for the final selection.
  • All applicants will be informed of the soloist selected via TMEA website posting by December 1, 2023.
  • The selected applicant must understand and acknowledge that TMEA will assume no financial responsibility or obligation for travel, lodging, or per diem for the convention in San Antonio, TX. No stipend or honorarium will be granted for this service. The selected soloists will be acknowledged in the concert program.
  • The online application form must be printed and include the signature of the applicant and the date submitted.
  • The printed application form must be submitted digitally by uploading during the application process.
  • Online Application Deadline: Noon, November 16, 2023

Rehearsals

  • All soloists must be available for the following dates and times:
    • Friday, February 9, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 2:00 to 5:00 PM for rehearsals with the choir
    • Saturday, February 10, 2024 from 10:45-11:45 AM for dress rehearsal with the choir
    • Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 12:30 PM for the SSC Mixed Choir concert
