| Born in Jacksboro, Texas; graduated from Jacksboro High School; played in Jacksboro City Band while in High School; studied clarinet with Franz Schoepp of the American Conservatory of Music, Chicago; studied clarinet with Joseph Schreurs, first clarinet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; graduated from VanderCook School of Music, Chicago, with a B.M. in Music; played in professional bands, industrial bands and theater orchestras; directed own orchestra; married Nellie Sims of Knox, Indiana; moved back to Texas in 1927 and directed the Municipal Band and the high school band in McLean, Texas; moved to Plainview in 1935 as supervisor of instrumental music and director of the high school band; retired from high school in 1964 and went to Wayland Baptist College to organize and direct the band and is still teaching band instruments; a member of the Texas Band Teachers Association (now the Texas Music Educators Association) in 1927; a member of Phi Beta Mu, national bandmasters fraternity, in 1939; a member of Texas Bandmasters Association shortly after it was organized; named Bandmaster of the Year in 1957 and was made an honorary life member; honorary life member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity; honorary life member of Kappa Kappa Psi, national honorary band fraternity; named to | ||||
